Water restrictions in 658 localities due to drought, two rivers have completely dried up

Published on

The water supply is ensured with restrictions due to the drought in 658 localities, of which 270 do not have centralized water systems and have dry wells, and two rivers – Glavacioc and Sabar – in the Arges-Vedea hydrographic area have completely dried up, he announced, Monday, the „Romanian Waters” National Administration (ANAR) on its Facebook page.

The most affected are the towns in the counties: Botosani, Vaslui, Iasi and Vrancea.

The filling factor in the main 40 reservoirs is 75%, the target set for the end of August, and the volume is 3.27 billion cubic meters of water, down from what it was at the beginning of July (3.5 billion cubic meters of water).

As regards the Danube flows at the entrance to the country, they are around 2,900 mc/s and will reach 2,600 mc/s on September 2, being below the multi-annual average of August (4,300 mc/s) and September (3,800 mc/s). In August 2022, the Danube flows were around 1,750 m3/s. The historical minimum was reached in 2003 at the value of 1,500 mc/s, states ANAR.

The sectors on the Danube river and its branches (Macin, Borcea, Chilia, Tulcea and Sulina), related to 49 localities, are in the warning-warning phase.

Also, 42 sectors out of the 120 drought monitoring sections (relevant for water uses) are below the minimum flows necessary to satisfy water requirements.

According to the quoted source, at this time, for the Cernavoda nuclear power plant, there are no problems regarding the water supply.
