Bavaria represents, among the German states, the most important investor and commercial partner of Romania, with a volume of commercial exchanges of 8.3 billion euros at the end of last year, and we want the large companies based in Bavaria in the automotive industry, of engineering and the aerospace industry to invest in our country, declared prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, in Munich, at the end of the joint meeting of the two governments, Romanian and Bavarian, at joint statements together with Markus Soder, the prime minister of the Free State of Bavaria.

Marcel Ciolacu pointed out that following the discussions, it was agreed that the economic dimension should be one of the pillars of bilateral collaboration.

The Romanian PM also referred to the dialogue about the Romanian community in Bavaria, the largest foreign community in Bavaria, and about the ethnic Germans originating in Romania.

„We also addressed the importance of preserving the identity elements of the Romanian language, culture and spirituality, especially for young Romanians. The Romanian government supports the running of Romanian language courses for young Romanians from the diaspora and we are confident that, very soon, they will also take place in the state of Bavaria,” stated Ciolacu.

Another topic of discussion covered the situation after the European Parliament elections, Marcel Ciolacu referring to a „common point”, namely that both Germany and Romania managed to stop the rise of extremist parties to a score of around 15%.

In this context, the Romanian prime minister conveyed to his Bavarian counterpart that Romania continues to rely on the support of Bavaria regarding the accession to the Schengen area.

He mentioned that the discussions also addressed the topic of the Union enlargement process, in a context in which the firm support for the European future of the partners from the Balkans, as well as the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, was reiterated, based on the merits of the candidates in the processes of reform.

At the same time, Ciolacu added, Romania’s solidarity with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people in the face of Russia’s illegal and unjustified war was reaffirmed in the exchange of ideas regarding the security situation in the Black Sea region.

At the end of his statements, the Romanian prime minister invited the Bavarian prime minister and his colleagues to continue the bilateral dialogue during a visit to Romania, where he would visit tourist attractions such as the Danube Delta and Dracula’s Castle.
