Wholesale turnover decreased by 3.1% in first four months

The turnover in wholesale trade (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) decreased, between January 1 and April 30, 2025, compared to the similar period in 2024, both as a gross series by 3.1% and as a series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality by 3.5%, data from the National Institute of Statistics show.

According to the INS, the decrease in gross series was recorded following the decrease in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-30.3%), specialized wholesale trade of other products (-8.1%) and wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (-1.0%). On the other hand, increases were recorded in wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (+6.2%), non-specialized wholesale trade (+5.7%), wholesale trade of consumer goods, other than food (+5.4%), wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+4.2%) and intermediary activities in wholesale trade (+3.5%).

According to the cited source, the turnover in wholesale trade (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles), gross series, in April 2025, compared to the previous month, decreased overall by 6.4%, as a result of the decrease in turnover in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-28.4%), specialized wholesale trade of other products (-11.8%), wholesale trade of consumer goods, other than food (-6.0%), wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (-5.8%), non-specialized wholesale trade (-2.2%) and wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (-0.3%). Increases were recorded in: wholesale intermediation activities (+3.4%) and wholesale trade of food products, beverages and tobacco (+2.3%).

The turnover in wholesale trade (except motor vehicles and motorcycles), series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, in April 2025, compared to the previous month, increased overall by 2%.

Also, the turnover in wholesale trade (except motor vehicles and motorcycles), gross series, in April 2025, compared to April 2024, decreased overall by 4.7%, as a result of the decrease in wholesale trade of raw agricultural products and live animals (-30.9%), specialized wholesale trade of other products (-9.5%) and wholesale trade of food, beverages and tobacco (-5.7%). Increases were recorded in: intermediary activities in wholesale trade and wholesale trade of other machinery, equipment and supplies (+8.0%, each), non-specialized wholesale trade (+3.3%), wholesale trade of computer and telecommunications equipment (+0.9%) and wholesale trade of consumer goods, other than food (+0.5%).

The turnover in wholesale trade (except motor vehicle and motorcycle trade), series adjusted according to the number of working days and seasonality, in April 2025, compared to April 2024, decreased overall by 1.3%.
