French President Emmanuel Macron called on his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping on Tuesday to join forces against the war in Ukraine and appeal to President Putin to „return to the negotiating table”, stressing that global stability is also in China’s interest, AFP reports, Agerpres reads.
It is necessary „to join forces to respond both to major international challenges, you mentioned the climate one to name just one and undoubtedly the most significant, but also to international crises such as the war launched by Russia in Ukraine for which the G20 it is an appropriate format”, said the French president at the beginning of a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali.
The G20 summit must „reduce the tensions, the gaps that exist in the international environment and allow us to build what I believe is in the interest of both China and France, that is, real stability, tangible elements of cooperation that will allow us to we bring peace back to wherever conflicts have settled”, emphasized Emmanuel Macron.
President Macron insisted, at the same time, on his „desire to give a new impetus to the resumption of cooperation” with China, especially in the line of global warming.
President Xi Jinping, in turn, asked France and Europe to work with China to strengthen „stability” in the world, without mentioning the war in Ukraine.
„China and France, China and Europe should proceed so that their relationship develops on a correct long-term trajectory to inject stability and positive energy into the world,” the Chinese leader said.
