There were1,628 companies and sole traders (PFAs) filing for insolvency in Q1 2025, down 9.71% year-on-year, according to data published on the website of the National Companies Registry Office (ONRC).
Most of them, 370, were registered in Bucharest, up 11.45% year-on-year.
Next in the insolvency ranking were the counties of Bihor, with 129 insolvencies (-14.57%), Cluj – 107 insolvencies (-30.07%), Ilfov – 85 (+18.06%), Timis – 72 (-33.33%) and Prahova – 62 (+10.71%).
On the other hand, the fewest cases of insolvency were reported in the counties of Harghita, four (+33.33% year-on-year); Covasna – 6 (-60%); Teleorman – 7 (- 41.67%), and Vaslui – 9 (minus 10%).
By fields of activity, the highest number of insolvencies was recorded in wholesale, retail, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 410 (-15.46% from Q1 2024); construction – 314 (-3.5%); transport and storage – 203 (+11.54%) and manufacturing – 184 (-14.02%).
In March 2025, 636 insolvencies were registered, most of them in Bucharest (124) and in the counties of Bihor (50), Cluj (45), Ilfov (39) and Timis (32).
