The candidate of the ”Romania Forward” Alliance in the presidential election Crin Antonescu declared on Monday that the cancellation of last year’s presidential election was a critical moment for Romanian democracy and stressed that, if he becomes head of state, something like this will not happen again during his term.
„Regarding the annulment of the election, I will say clearly that it was a critical moment for Romanian democracy, it is a decision of a court provided for by the Constitution, which we all respect. It is still a traumatic moment. Not only were a few hundred thousand votes lost, all nine million votes cast were lost, they no longer had meaning. We are moving forward, we have no other way than these elections, their democratic conduct and all I can say, all I can commit to, that during my term as president, something like this will not happen again,” Antonescu said at the debate organized by Digi24 at Cotroceni Palace.
He also said that during his term he would verify the functioning of the institutions.
