President Klaus Iohannis said on Monday that he continues to support the increase in teachers’ salaries starting January 1, 2024, and gave assurances that he remains firm in supporting all steps to make the commitments made by the Government in this area a reality, write Agerpres.

„My message to you remains the same: you are indispensable to the future of this country. This year’s pay rises are a step in the right direction, but you certainly deserve more. The average 25% increase in salaries for teaching staff became a reality after you brought the importance of the teaching profession to society’s attention.

I continue to support the increase in salaries from January 1, 2024, and I assure you that I remain firm in supporting all the steps that will make the commitments made by the Government in this area a reality,” Iohannis said at the opening of the school year at secondary school No.

162 in the Capital. He said that as of this year there have already been serious investments in the infrastructure of the education system, financed both from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan and from the state budget. „We are talking about more than one billion euros for new, modern furniture, state-of-the-art IT equipment and new laboratories and teaching materials. Thus, more than 5,600 schools will benefit from a modern educational environment,” the head of state explained.

President Iohannis pointed out that the new education legislation revalues the teaching career. „We encourage tenure in educational units in disadvantaged areas, and a number of elements have been introduced that will generate predictability in terms of the teaching norm. All these changes have been made because we need teachers with vocation,” added Iohannis.

Minister of Education Ligia Deca and Bucharest District 1 Mayor Clotilde Armand also attended the opening of the school year at secondary school No. 162.
