Minister Odobescu, at Ministerial Meeting of Global Network of National Focal Points on Women, Peace and Security

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, and the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, hosted, on Thursday, at the UN headquarters in New York, the Ministerial Meeting of the Global Network of National Focal Points on Women, Peace and Security (WPS), on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly, write Agerpres.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent on Friday, the event was organized in the context in which Romania and the USA hold, during the year 2023, the co-presidency of the network. Minister Odobescu emphasized the importance of the UN Agenda regarding the theme Women, Peace and Security in increasing the involvement of women in the decision-making processes in this field, especially considering the war in Ukraine, which substantially affects the women of this country, the source says.

Odobescu informed about the efforts and progress made by Romania in the implementation of the UN Agenda, mentioning the adoption in 2020 of the first National Strategy and the National Action Plan in this field for the period 2020 – 2023. At the same time, Luminita Odobescu said that gender equality is the foundation for building resilient societies.

The minister recalled that a meeting of the Global Network will be organized, between November 7 and 9, in Bucharest. In turn, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken thanked Romania for the co-presidency of the Global Network of National Focal Points on Women, Peace and Security, highlighting the importance of implementing this agenda to ensure inclusive and resilient societies, MAE reports.
