PM Ciolacu: Labour Ministry’s number one priority at this moment should be the pension law

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu on Monday said that related to Romania’s payment request no. 4 under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), the number one priority of the Ministry of Labour and the government at this moment is completing the new pension law, after which the necessary steps for the new pay law will be taken.

He was asked by journalists on Monday if the January 1, 2024 deadline for the entry into force of the new public pay law can still be taken into account given that the related bill should have reached Parliament on September 1.

„What we have agreed with the European Commission is to come up with this package, which is soft, from my point of view. There must be a major clampdown in the fight against tax evasion and in the budget reform, and I think that the number one priority of the Ministry of Labour at this moment must be the pension law, and we are about to start taking steps for the pay law as well.

This does not mean that projects are abandoned, they are being worked on concomitantly, and, by the way, we are also working on a law on special pensions. (…) So, it is really a delay in many cases, they overlapped, but we will certainly manage it,” said Ciolacu. Ciolacu on Monday participated in the inauguration of a new auditorium at the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy.
