PM Ciolacu: I will move forward with gambling regulations

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that he has no problem with threats from the gambling machine industry, adding that on Thursday the government will approve an emergency ordinance by which all gambling operators will be compelled to have a registered office for tax purposes in Romania, and the law in Parliament by which all the gambling machines will be banished out of town will be fast-tracked, write Agerpres.

„I want to announce that I will also move forward with gambling regulations. I have no problem with the threats from the gambling industry and on Thursday we will issue the emergency ordinance by which all operators will be placed under an obligation to have a registered office for tax purposes in Romania, and the law in Parliament by which we banish all the gambling machines out of the town will be fast tracked.

I am convinced that the public authorities will shed light on how these middlemen want to present things to politicians to make decisions in favour of this industry, as happened in the past, sometimes even the advisers of the prime minister were found for that purpose. Just as they did during the pandemic, when the gambling mafia was at the government’s table and gambling machine venues were open all over Romania, while churches and hospitals were closed,” Ciolacu told a government meeting on Monday.
