BNS women ask for initiation of ratification process of convention on harassment at work, by year end

Published on

The women’s organization of the National Trade Union Bloc wants to initiate, by the end of this year, the process of ratifying the Convention of the International Labour Organization, which refers to violence and harassment in the world of work, write Agerpres.

The minister of Labour and Social Protection, Simona Bucura Oprescu, met with the social partners on Tuesday, and the discussions focused precisely on the ratification of this convention. „The objective of the Women’s Organization of the National Trade Union Bloc, communicated to the minister of Labor and Social Protection, Simona Bucura Oprescu, is to determine the Romanian government and parliament to initiate the process of ratifying this crucial convention by the end of this year. We remind you that last year, on April 28, before Labour Day, celebrated annually on May 1, our organization signed and sent an open letter to the Romanian government and the Romanian parliament for the urgent ratification of this convention.

We emphasize the importance of the fact that the elimination of harassment and violence must becomes an integral part of the Health and Safety at Work (OSH) policies,” according to a press release from the National Trade Union Bloc sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday. The minister of Labour, Simona Bucura Oprescu, announced on Tuesday, on her Facebook page, that the relevant ministry will strengthen collaboration with the unions, but also with the NGOs present in the area of protection of women’s rights and equal opportunities between women and men.

„I participated today (Tuesday, ed. n.) at the Victoria Palace in a working meeting with the social partners for the ratification of the Convention of the International Labour Organization (ILO) no. 190 regarding the elimination of violence and harassment in the world of work. In Romania, too little is said about violence and harassment at the workplace, phenomena that should not find their place in a society we want to live, work and raise our children in. What is worse is that, unfortunately, women face the most with these behaviors,” wrote the minister of Labour.
