The president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, in western Timisoara and Arad this weekend, has scheduled on Friday afternoon a meeting with the representatives of the Bessarabian community in Timisoara, according to the press office of the Timisoara City Hall.
In the first part of Saturday, Maia Sandu will receive, in Timisoara, the „Timisoara for European values” Award, granted by the Municipality, with this distinction being honoured „internationally recognized personalities who, with determination, courage and creativity, promote or defend European values inside and outside the EU”.
The president of the Republic of Moldova is the first awardee of the highest distinction instituted this year by the Municipality of Timisoara and will give a speech about Europe and the values that define us.
In nominating her for this award for 2023, the jury members appreciated „the clarity of the European vision and the determination with which Maia Sandu pursues it, believing in the European aspirations of the Republic of Moldova when many considered them a utopia”, according to the Timisoara City Hall.
The jury that designated Maia Sandu as the first laureate of the award is made up of prominent personalities from the country and the diaspora, who promote European values: the writer Mircea Cartarescu, Iulia Motoc – judge with the International Criminal Court, Cristian Macelaru – musical director of the National Orchestra of France, ambassador Simona Miculescu – permanent delegate of Romania to UNESCO, Anca Miruna Lazarescu – director and screenwriter and Adriana Babeti – writer and literary critic.
Also on Saturday, Maia Sandu will be the guest of the Custodian of the Romanian Crown, at the Savarsin Royal Castle.
„Her Majesty Margareta and His Royal Highness Prince Radu will welcome Mrs. President Maia Sandu in the Royal Village at 2:00 p.m. Then, the distinguished guest will be invited to lunch in the Savarsin Royal Castle. After lunch, the President of the Republic of Moldova will visit the Royal Park and the Royal Automobile Museum together with Her Majesty and His Royal Highness. The visit to Savarsin will end around 4:00 p.m.,” the Royal House announces.
