The Romanian Parliament’s joint plenary meeting took note on Tuesday of President Klaus Iohannis’s briefing regarding the approval of equipment and goods donated to Ukraine by Finland transiting Romania, and the training of approximately 50 Ukrainian troops.

„In accordance with the provisions of Art. 119 of the Constitution of Romania and Law No. 291/2007 on foreign troops entering, stationing, carrying out operations or crossing the territory of Romania, republished, with subsequent amendments and additions, at the proposal of the prime minister of Romania, after consulting with the Supreme Council for National Defence, we approved the transit through Romania of the equipment and material goods donated by Finland to Ukraine, and the training of approximately 50 Ukrainian military personnel, for getting acquainted, using and maintaining the donated equipment,” reads the document sent to Parliament by the head of the state.

The necessary funding comes from the budget of the National Defence Ministry, which will take the necessary steps for the recovery of the incurred expenses through the mechanism established at the level of the EU Military Assistance Mission in support of Ukraine (EUMAM Ukraine), the document shows, noting that as a response to the Russian aggression against Ukraine, NATO and European Union actions in support of Ukraine and its citizens continued on multiple levels, including political-diplomatic, economic, financial, humanitarian or sectoral efforts, but also for promoting the enforcement of international law, or combating the global food crisis. This course of action led to the consolidation of Euro-Atlantic solidarity and the adjustment of efforts in terms of security and defence policy, from the perspective of increasing resources and operational engagement in the region, President Iohannis said in the briefing.
