Romanian managers are expecting a moderate increase in the processing industry, retail trade, services, March-May 2024

Romanian managers are expecting a moderate increase in activities in the processing industry, retail trade and services between March and May, while for the construction sector should advance19%, according to the findings of a business survey conducted by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In the processing industry, managers are expecting a moderate increase in production volume in March, April and May (short-term percentage balance + 9%). As regards the number of employees, relative stability is expected, with the short-term percentage balance at 0%. Also, industrial prices are forecast to grow over the next three months (short-term percentage balance +17%).

According to March 2024 estimates, production in construction should increase in volume for the next three months (short-term percentage balance + 19%). Managers are estimating relative stability of the number of employees (short-term percentage balance + 5%). As far as prices for construction works go, they are expected to increase (short-term percentage balance + 32%).

In the retail sector, managers are expecting a moderate growth for the next three months (short-term percentage balance + 13%). The volume of orders to suppliers of goods by business operators should post a moderate increase (short-term percentage balance + 12%). Employers are also expecting an increase in the number of employees (short-term percentage balance + 18%). At the same time, managers of trading companies estimate an increase in retail prices (short-term percentage balance + 26%).

According to March 2024 estimates, demand for services (turnover) would go up moderately over the next three months (short-term percentage balance +8%). Relative stability is estimated of the number of employees (short-term percentage balance + 4%).

The short-term percentage balance reflected by the survey indicates the perception of business managers on the dynamics of a phenomenon that should not be confused with the rate of increase or decrease of any statistical indicator produced by the INS.

The short-term percentage balance is the difference between the percentage of managers who chose the positive version of the phenomenon and the percentage of those who indicated the negative version, as follows: up to ą 5% relative stability; ą 6% to ą 15% moderate increase or moderate decrease, respectively; ą 16% to ą 40% increase or decrease, respectively; over ą 40% sharp increase or decrease, respectively.
