Romanian voters abroad can register online

Published on

Romanian voters who want to vote in this year’s presidential and/or parliamentary elections by mail or at a polling station abroad closer to their home or residence can register online on the www.votstrainatate.ro portal starting today, the Standing Electoral Authority (AEP) reported on Monday.

The portal includes two sections: the election of the President of Romania and the election to the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies. Within each section there are two categories: Voter abroad at a polling station and Voter abroad by mail.

The Romanian voters opting to vote abroad at a polling station will fill in an online form, in which they will enter name, surname, personal numerical code, e-mail address, city and state of choice for the vote, to which a scanned or photographed copy of the identity document will be attached. A polling station can be set up at the request of at least 100 citizens from the same settlement or from a group of settlements.

After completing the registration procedure on the portal, the voters will receive a verification email containing a link valid for 24 hours that has to be accessed to confirm the application, otherwise the validation of the registration will not be performed. AEP will process the applications for voting at a polling station within 10 working days of the confirmation of the verification e-mail. Processing the applications for postal voting from abroad is done by AEP within five days of the confirmation of the verification e-mail.

Postal voting is allowed only in the election for the President of Romania, and the parliamentary election.
