Romania is in discussions with many partners from the defense industry, and the profile fair, in May, will show the great potential of the Romanian economy and the intentions of many partners to come and produce equipment in Romania, declared, on Thursday, the Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Stefan-Radu Oprea.

„We have discussions with many partners. I think that the BSDA [Black Sea Defense & Aerospace – ed.n], the specialised fair in Romania, which will take place in May, will really show the great potential of the Romanian economy and the intentions of many partners to come and produce equipment in Romania. There are such discussions. We are in negotiations with several partners and until the contract or negotiations are finalised it is my habit not to speak, because in this way I have could affect our negotiation area, but we are certainly following all the programs, because we have a new industrial cooperation law starting in December, which allows us to be proactive, it allows us to anticipate together with the Ministry of National Defense, together with the other ministries of force, let’s have time for the Romanian industry to be prepared for the new acquisitions to be made by these ministries,” said Stefan-Radu Oprea, present at the fourth edition of the „Romanian Business & Investment Roundtable” conference, organized by The Economist Impact Events.

The minister of Economy stated that the European Union is talking about the development of the common base for the defense industry. According to the minister, Romania is progressing rapidly in the development of new projects in the defense industry.

„Usually we refer only to the industry with state capital, but I remind you that in Romania there are 130 companies active in this field, 108 are with private capital, 22 are with state capital and they work together to produce good quality equipment for the Romanian Army, for the other ministries. But we are also in the process of exporting from Romania, because many of these companies are part of the production supply chains for the big renowned companies in this industry in the world,” said Stefan-Radu Oprea.
