National leader of Romania’s Social Democratic Party (PSD) Marcel Ciolacu said on Saturday that PSD will win the European election in Romania this June and will send an important number of representatives to the European Parliament, adding that, after 20 years of right-of-centre leadership, Europe needs more social policies and humanisation.
„On June 9, in Romania there will have both European and local elections. The important turnout will legitimise both our representatives in the European Parliament and the importance of a Europe close to citizens. PSD will win these elections, will send to the European Parliament an important number of representatives and we want to start from here, in Bucharest, the social-democratic wave in our entire region. That is why it is important to support us so that in the future European Commission and in the future European Parliament we will have more leaders from our area, because only through unity and cohesion will Europe be strong and for this we also need representativeness,” Ciolacu told a meeting in Bucharest of leaders of the Party of European Socialists (PSD).
He said he is convinced that European social democrats can win the EP elections, and more PSD MEPs will come from Romania than five years ago.
„I am firmly convinced that we are the political current that the European Union needs now. After 20 years of right-of-centre rule, Europe needs more social policies, it needs humanisation, it needs the energy and ideas that European social democracy supports. (…) The extremes did nothing. They are only looking to divide Europe and throw us into Vladimir Putin’s arms. The extremes want us to stop having European money, they want us to stop moving freely in Europe, they want us to close our borders and hate each other. The reality is simple: while anti-Europeans were filming themselves on social media, our commissioners were contributing to the solutions we found to the multiple crises we went through,” said the Romanian Prime Minister.
