The Social Democratic Party (co-ruling PSD) has informed on Monday that it will propose a „predictable” path for the introduction of the European minimum salary in Romanian legislation, so that entrepreneurs can establish in advance their wage policies for their employees.

„The introduction of the European minimum salary will provide more predictability to the business environment, contrary to USR [Save Romania Union]’s anti-European disinformation. At the same time, establishing a mechanism for the annual increase of the minimum wage in Romania, based on objective economic parameters, will allow entrepreneurs to make more accurate estimates of the financial resources to be allocated, in the medium and long term, for the workforce and for business development,” reads a PSD press release sent to AGERPRES.

According to the social democrats, USR would seemingly practice „aggressive disinformation” regarding the European legislation on the adequate minimum wages within the EU.

„USR deceivingly insinuates that such a measure adopted by the European Parliament would imply a rise in labour taxation. Contrary to what USR is claiming, the increase in salaries in Romania as a result of the introduction of the European minimum wage will balance the ration between labour and capital, will contribute to reducing social gaps by increasing low and average salaries and will ensure the sustainable pension rise in the medium and long term. Moreover, the measure is essential to encourage the youth to build a future in Romania, given that the main reason for their leaving the country is related to the difference between salaries in Romania and those in other European states. The introduction of a European minimum wage will ensure the gradual reduction of the gap through a predictable and inevitable rise in salaries, alongside the development of the national economy,” explained the social democrats.

According to PSD, „the amateurish and populist measures put forward by USR” would maintain the gaps between big low salaries and would lead to the „inevitable” bankruptcy of the public pension system in Romania.

„Through such approaches, USR reconfirms its position of adversary to pensioners and employees with low salaries in Romania,” the PSD release further reads.
