Iohannis, about NATO leadership: Until unanimity is achieved, absolutely nothing will be decided

Published on

President Klaus Iohannis stated on Thursday that he discussed, on the sidelines of the Three Seas Summit, issues related to NATO and his candidacy for the position of Secretary General, noting that the decision is made by consensus and, until unanimity is achieved, „absolutely nothing” will be decided.

„We also discussed issues related to NATO and my candidacy. But I want to clarify one issue here: there will never be a vote at NATO. The appointment of the Secretary General is made by consensus, and the consensus is obtained through diplomatic negotiations, discussions between leaders and so on. So, there is not much point in looking at how many they said, what they said, because until unanimity is reached, absolutely nothing will be decided and, until then, there is still a long way to go,” said Iohannis.
