Manufacturing industry records 5.3 pct increase in number of new orders, in first two months of 2024

The number of new orders in the manufacturing industry increased by 5.3% in the first two months of this year compared to the same period in 2023, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to the official statistics, January 1 to February 29 2024, the increase in the number of new orders in the manufacturing industry was due to activities recorded in the capital goods industry (+10.4%). On the other hand, decreases were recorded in the durable goods industry (-6.9%), the current goods industry (-2.3%) and the intermediate goods industry (-0.3%).

New orders in manufacturing also increased in nominal terms by 6.4% in February 2024, year-over-year, on account of the performance of the capital goods industry (+8.9%), durable goods industry (+4.3%), intermediate goods industry (+3.0%) and current goods industry (+2.3%).

INS data shows that, month-on-month (February vs. January 2024), the number of new orders in manufacturing industry increased by 6.5% overall, following increases in: durable goods industry (+25.1%), consumer goods industry (+12.7%), intermediate goods industry (+6.2%) and capital goods industry (+5%).
