Mihai Tudose – European Parliament Report (III): For effective European solidarity with Romania

Published on

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, we notified the European Commission: „The priority of the moment is that the funds allocated by the EU to mitigate the effects of the pandemic reach as quickly as possible the citizens in need and in the regions most affected by the crisis. Considering that the most affected people were already in a fragile situation when the crisis started, I ask the Commission that Romania and the other member states from the last waves of accession to the EU benefit from consistent and urgent European support.

We cannot afford delays due to artificially complicated negotiations or a bureaucracy that does not take into account the needs of the people”.

In that difficult period, in order to support Romanians working abroad, I was a co-initiator of the resolution on the European protection of cross-border and seasonal workers in the context of the crisis caused by Covid-19.

In the process of defining economic support following the pandemic, we called for a fair allocation of EU grants from the Recovery and Resilience Mechanism.

Another topic that I tackled in support of Romania, against the background of the economic blockade, as a member of the Subcommittee for Fiscal Matters, was the correction of macroeconomic indicators, namely the public debt and the actual individual consumption gap compared to GDP/capita.

I was also concerned about the rights of Romanians in Great Britain in the context of Brexit. As a result, we asked the European Commission to ensure the respect of the rights of Romanians and all other EU citizens in British territory after the deadline of 30 June 2021.
