PSD-PNL candidate for Bucharest mayor brushes off incompatibility accusations

Published on

Speaking on Wednesday evening on private broadcaster B1TV, doctor Catalin Cirstoiu, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party – National Liberal Party (PSD-PNL) ruling coalition for Bucharest General Mayor, admitted having performed at the private clinic owned by his wife, but said that he was not in a state of incompatibility because he was there to help his fellow physicians, without being paid.

Cirstoiu was quizzed about a media article that shows that while he was a manager at the Bucharest University Emergency Hospital, he offered consultations at his wife’s private clinic Anemona. The journalists also published text messages received by several patients operated at the University Hospital, who were then referred by residents to Anemona, to be consulted by doctor Cirstoiu.

„Let’s clear up these issues that have arisen. I am in no state of incompatibility. This is really so. (…) I was in no contractual relationship, paid or unpaid, with a private clinic, and specifically with my wife’s medical facility. (…) I did not consult at Anemona Med, I just helped my colleagues when they had a problem, and the patients as well. I didn’t have an employment contract. I’m in no state of incompatibility. Of course, the National Integrity Agency is looking into the matter and will issue a report,” said Cirstoiu.

On the other hand, he admitted that his medical seal, „the sign of my professional competence”, appears on the medical letter of a patient consulted at Anemona.

About the messages whereby University Hospital patients were sent for consultations to Anemona, Cirstoiu said that they were „truncated”.
