UPDATE 20 children stranded in UAE due to floods to return home on PM’s plane

SPECIAL CORRESPONDENCE from Abu Dhabi. 20 children and two accompanying teachers stranded in the United Arab Emirates following the floods in Dubai will return to the country on the plane that will also take Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu, Foreign Minister Luminița Odobescu has announced.

„In the context of the massive floods that affected Dubai, both our Embassy in Abu Dhabi and the Consulate General of Romania have been in contact with Romanian citizens who found themselves in difficult situations. Last night we were informed about the situation of a group of 20 students with two teachers, who were in a more delicate situation because they could not find hotel accommodation. With the support of the Consulate General of Romania, they were brought to Abu Dhabi, and with the support of Prime Minister Ciolacu, they will be picked up tomorrow by airplane which will return to Bucharest”, said Luminița Odobescu.

A group of 20 children and two accompanying teachers, members of a folklore ensemble from Sibiu county, were stranded in Dubai after floods in recent days.

The children arrived from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, where the prime minister’s delegation is also staying.

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu began a three-day visit to Qatar and the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday 16 April.

The Romanian Prime Minister is accompanied on his visit to the Persian Gulf by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Sorin Grindeanu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminița Odobescu, the Minister of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Tourism, Ștefan-Radu Oprea, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Florin-Ionuț Barbu, Minister of Energy, Sebastian Burduja, Minister of Research, Innovation and Digitalisation, Bogdan Ivan, President of ANCOM, Valeriu Zgonea, President of ANSVSA, Alexandru Bociu, President of Hidroelectrica, Karoly Borbely, Director of the Port of Constanta, Mihai Teodorescu.
