The general mayor of Bucharest, Nicusor Dan, believes that the electoral battle will take place between him and Cristian Popescu Piedone, adding that it is „unserious” for the Social Democratic Party (PSD) – National Liberal Party (PNL) alliance „to come up with some candidates six weeks before the elections”.

„First of all, it’s not serious to come up with some candidates six weeks before the elections, who just now started collecting signatures. It was already unserious three months ago, when there was no candidate at all. Then, what do the polls tell us and what the people of Bucharest say to all the friends who stood in the street and collected signatures is that this battle in one round will take place between me and Cristian Popescu Piedone. It is the same electoral fight that takes place in Bucharest every time between the Right and the Left. In 2020 we had a coalition of the right-wing public,” declared Nicusor Dan at the headquarters of the Electoral Office of the Municipality of Bucharest.

According to him, there are two right-wing candidates, two left-wing candidates for Bucharest and because there are elections in one round „people will vote usefully”, and the right-wing and left-wing supporters will vote with the best-ranked candidates – Nicusor Dan and Popescu Piedone.
