The Bucharest Electoral District Office has decided to register the agreement on the dissolution of a protocol for the establishment of the Social Democratic Party – National Liberal Party (PSD-PNL) citywide electoral alliance and of the protocols for the establishment of the PSD-PNL electoral alliance in all six districts of the city.

The decisions were made on Thursday evening and can be appealed within 24 hours of being posted.

„Noting that the agreement on the dissolution of the protocol on the establishment of the PSD-PNL citywide electoral alliance in Bucharest was submitted to the Bucharest Electoral District Office in compliance with the provisions of Article 5 (3) and (4) in OUG 21 on certain measures for organising and conducting elections to the European Parliament from Romania in 2024 and elections to the local public administrations 2024 and Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) decision no. 54 H of March 23, 2023, consequently, in accordance with the provisions of Article 5 (4) of OUG 21/2024, the Bucharest Electoral District Office has decided: registering the agreement on the dissolution of the protocol establishing the PSD-PNL citywide electoral alliance in Bucharest,” reads the document.

Under Romania’s electoral legislation, protocols for the dissolution of electoral alliances in 2024 can be registered until April 26 at the latest, four days before the April 30 deadline for submitting candidacies for the local elections.

The protocol of the PSD-PNL alliance provided for joint candidacies for the Bucharest City Hall, the General Council, the district mayoralties and the six local councils. The coalition decided on Monday evening to go with separate candidates for Bucharest City Hall, namely Gabriela Firea – PSD and Sebastian Burduja – PNL. It also decided that the district mayor candidates remain joint, as do lists of local councillors.
