Romania’s registered unemployment rate as of end-March 2024 was 3.14 percent, up from 3.06 percent the month before, the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) said in a release.

The jobless total as of the end of March was 252,588, of whom 54,864 were collecting unemployment benefit and 197,724 were not. The number of jobless on benefit was by 1,840 lower, and that of unemployed receiving no benefit was 7,727 up compared to the previous month.

By residence, 69,664 unemployed in the ANOFM records were living in urban areas and 182,924 were rural residents.

The number of jobless women as of March 31, 2024 was 118,939, while the number of unemployed men was 133,649.

Most unemployed were in the 40 – 49 age bracket (65,241), followed by those aged over 55 (55,308). Unemployment was the lowest in the 25 – 29 age category (15,359).

By level of education, the unemployed without formal education and those with primary education account for a significant share in the total number of unemployed in the ANOFM records (30.60 percent). Unemployed middle school graduates account for 34.52 percent of this total, and higher education graduates – for 4.68 percent.
