Senator Sosoaca:May 14 should have seen observance of National Remembrance Day for Communist Prison Martyrs

Published on

Attending on Tuesday the joint Parliament sitting dedicated to the Day of Solidarity and Friendship between Romania and the State of Israel, Senator Diana Sosoaca argued that May 14 should have seen the observance of the National Remembrance Day for Communist Prison Martyrs and accused the Legislature of „betraying” the Romanian people and the country’s interests.

„Today, according to Law No. 127 of 2017 we should have observed the National Remembrance Day for Communist Prison Martyrs. Whereas we saved more than 400,000 Jews in World War II, the Judeo-Bolsheviks killed more than 800,000 Romanians in communist prisons. How is it possible for you, the Romanian Parliament, to betray the Romanian people and the interests of our country? Where on earth is this a thing? Is there a principle of reciprocity between Romania and Israel requiring that today or on some other day the Romanian flag should be raised and the entire Israel should celebrate Romania and the Romanian people? Or have we become slaves in our own country?,” Sosoaca inquired.

She went on to say that in Romania the history of the Jews is a mandatory subject matter, but Israel does not have a compulsory course of Romanian history.

„We observe Israel’s Independence Day in Romania, although, mind you, we recognized the State of Israel on June 11, 1948. Why did you have to set it on May 14, when this is the day dedicated to those who were killed in communist prisons? Shame on the Romanian Parliament!,” Diana Sosoaca concluded.
