PM Ciolacu: I discussed plan to send Patriot system to Ukraine with President Iohannis, decision to be taken in CSAT

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Tuesday that he discussed with President Klaus Iohannis the possibility to send a Patriot missile system to Ukraine, stressing however that a decision on this subject will be made only following a meeting of the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT).

„I am sure that you will learn about the decision after the CSAT meeting,” Ciolacu said in Brasov when asked if he approached the subject with the head of the state.

According to the prime minister, the relevant discussion took place recently.

„I repeat, this is a decision that is taken in the CSAT meeting. There is no place for opinions when we talk about national defence,” Ciolacu underscored, and also revisited his previous statement on the subject, denying having said that the Defence minister would have „serious reservations” about such a plan. „I didn’t say ‘serious’, I only said that he had reservations,” Ciolacu pointed out.

The head of the Executive said he is not bothered by the insistence of the media for him to share his stance on the relocation of the Patriot system, yet he repeatedly underscored that this is a decision for the CSAT to take.
