Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Anatoliiovych Shmyhal says a Ukrainian victory against Russia would be a „victory for all democracies,” but the continued support of Kyiv partners and allies is needed.
„We are now rebuilding our country and we need to stop the Russians from destroying more. We need Patriot systems and we hope that Romania will also be able to contribute. These systems save the lives of civilians and help maintain normal daily life in Ukraine,” said Shmyhal in a video message to participants at the Black Sea and Balkans Security Forum on Thursday.
He stressed that Ukraine’s victory in the war with Russia will be an investment in Romania’s security.
„For more than two years we have been defending our country from Russian aggression, but not only that, the Ukrainian nation is defending the foundations and values of European democracy which are under attack by the Russian dictator. The victory of Ukraine will be the victory of all democracies. It will be the greatest investment in your own security. To ensure this victory, we need the continued support of our partners and allies,” said Denys Shmyhal.
The Ukrainian official pointed out that his country needs military support first and foremost, with priority being given to air defence systems, artillery ammunition, long- and medium-range missiles.
Equally important, according to him, is the seizure of frozen Russian assets, which „must contribute to Ukraine’s recovery and resilience.” Also, in the opinion of the Ukrainian prime minister, the sanctions regime against the Russian economy must be strengthened.
