The minister of National Defence, Angel Tilvar on Thursday welcomed the president of the defence industry in Turkey, Haluk Gorgun, the two addressing the opportunities for collaboration between the companies in the field from the two countries, the Ministry of National Defense informs in a press release.

During the meeting that took place at the headquarters of the ministry, the two officials also discussed the latest developments in the technical-military cooperation between Romania and Turkey.

Minister Tilvar emphasized the importance of joint projects carried out both in a bilateral context and within NATO, in order to strengthen the security of the Black Sea area, a topic that was also on the agenda of the discussions held recently in Ankara, on the sidelines of the first meeting of the Romania – Turkey High Level Strategic Cooperation Council.

„As NATO allies in the Black Sea region, it is very important to strengthen cooperation in the technical-military field, in order to be able to meet the requirements regarding the equipment of the armed forces. A consolidated Romanian defence industry is necessary, considering the specifics of the security situation in our region,” minister Tilvar said.

He appreciated the „very good” level of cooperation between the Romanian and Turkish armed forces on all components, stressing the important role that the Black Sea Mine Action Group – MCM Black Sea will have for the safety of navigation routes in the area.

At the end of the meeting, minister Tilvar highlighted the consistent participation of prominent Turkish companies at the Black Sea Defense & Aerospace Exhibition (BSDA 2024), an aspect that contributes to strengthening the dialogue between companies in the defence industry in Turkey and Romania.
