Minister of Labour and Social Solidarity Simona Bucura Oprescu said on Tuesday, at a news conference in Iasi, that from July 1 the minimum wage in Romania will be RON 3,700.

She said that, following discussions within the National Tripartite Council, it was negotiated that from July 1 the minimum wage will be RON 3,700. She added that as far as the guaranteed minimum gross wage goes, the European directive must be followed.

„The minimum wage is established through negotiations within the National Tripartite Council, where we have together representatives of trade unions, representatives of employers and representatives of the Executive. The minimum wage as from July 1 is RON 3,700. As far as the guaranteed gross minimum wage is concerned, there is a European directive for that. As far as the public pay law is concerned, we have milestone 420 in the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNNR). Absolutely all occupational families – whether we are talking about trade union representatives or employers – absolutely all have been consulted, so that we know the specifics of each occupational family, the specifics of each function, and the new pay law meets its essential objective of bringing equity to public pay.”
