Three exhausted Ukrainains rescued off Maramures Mountains

Published on

Three Ukrainians who crossed the border into northern Romania through the Maramures Mountains were rescued Thursday night by a mixed crew of border police and mountain rescuers who offered them first aid, food and hot tea, and then prepared them for the descent to safety, the director of the Maramures County Mountain Rescue Public Service Dan Benga informed.

The three were brought down safely but they refused to be taken to a medical facility, and were handed over to the competent authorities instead, Dan Benga said.

Wednesday evening, the Salvamont service received a request to rescue and extract from the Maramures Mountains three Ukrainians aged 21, 24 and 29 who were suffering from exhaustion, had run out of supplies and water and were unable to walk any further because of the fatigue; one of them was also experiencing medical issues.

Salvamont formed a team with the border police from Valea Viseului to get them off the mountain.
