Ciolacu: Attribute of appointing European commissioner belongs to PM, I will have a discussion with President Iohannis

The attribute of appointing the European commissioner belongs to the prime minister, declared on Saturday the head of the Executive, Marcel Ciolacu, stating that he will also have a discussion with the president Klaus Iohannis on this subject.

He was asked in Buzau about the option that would be circulated to support Nicolae Ciuca in the presidential candidacy in exchange for the guarantee that he will be retained as prime minister and also that a social democrat will be proposed for the post of European commissioner which will return to Romania.

„First of all, the attribute of appointing the European Commissioner belongs to the Prime Minister. It is also a discussion in the coalition and I will also have a discussion with the President of Romania, who is, in fact, Romania’s representative at the European Council. The negotiations regarding the Commissioner have already have been started for six months and with several European leaders, we had telephone discussions yesterday. Things are in the right direction, especially institutionally,” said Marcel Ciolacu.

The Head of the Executive visited the Aurel Vlaicu Aeronautical Personnel Training and Training Air Base, from Boboc, on Saturday, where the Boboc Air Show – BOBAS 2024 air rally is taking place.
