Foreigners seeking employment in Romania expelled after trying to leave illegally

Published on

Foreigners from Bangladesh, Egypt, Nepal and Pakistan, who had come legally to Romania to get a job, were expelled by the local authorities after being caught trying to leave the country illegally to reach Western Europe.

According to a press release sent on Monday by the General Immigration Inspectorate, police officers with the Accommodation Centre for Foreigners Taken in Public Custody in Arad escorted 13 foreigners to the Cluj-Napoca International Airport, where they were embarked on commercial flights to their countries of origin. They are men aged between 20 and 39 years. Eight are from Bangladesh, two from Egypt, two from Pakistan and one from Nepal.

All of them entered Romania legally between 2022 and 2024 for employment purposes. As they were found by the border guards in an attempt to illegally cross the state border, they were also placed in public custody pending their removal from Romania.

They are now banned for five years from entering any member state of the European Union, the European Economic Area, or the Swiss Confederation.
