Personal services slightly up four months into 2024

The volume of personal service provided in Romania increased by 0.1 seasonally adjusted in the first four months of 2024, y-o-y, according to data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

In January and April 2024, the growth in personal services, unadjusted, was influenced by washing and (dry-)cleaning of textile and fur products (+8.2%) and gambling and other recreational activities (+1.2%).

On the other hand, decreases were recorded in hairdressing and other beauty treatment (-14.5%), the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-7.6%) and the activities of hotels and restaurants (-0.2%).

INS data show that in April 2024, business on the same segment of activity was down 1.4% on a monthly basis, seasonally adjusted, influenced by the results from gambling and other recreational activities (-12.7%), the activities of hotels and restaurants (-4.1%) and the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-2%).

On the other hand, hairdressing and other beauty treatment (+8.5%) and washing and (dry-)cleaning of textile and fur products (+6.1%) were up.

Y-o-y, April 2024’s turnover decreased 1.6%, seasonally adjusted.

Decreases were reported the activities of travel agencies and tour operators (-17.1%), gambling and other recreational activities (-10%), hairdressing and other beauty treatment (-2.4%) and the activities of hotels and restaurants (-2.2%).

At the same time, washing and (dry-)cleaning of textile and fur products increased by 14.8%.
