TransMin Grindeanu: Romania has a massive potential for Swiss investments

Swiss companies are interested in coming to Romania, especially for improving the quality of rolling stock for railway infrastructure, Romania’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Sorin Grindeanu said on Thursday.

„Romania has a massive potential for Swiss investments. I have told my interlocutors that we want the best technologies and products for the Romanian market. I believe that, after 35 years, Romania and Romanians deserve to enjoy high-quality rail transport. Today, in Bern, I discussed deepening transport co-operation with Guy Parmelin, coordinator with the Federal Department of Economic Affairs. Swiss companies are interested in coming to Romania, especially for improving the quality of rolling stock for railway infrastructure,” Grindeanu wrote in a social media post.

Grindeanu and head of the Swiss Federal Department for the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications Albert Rosti discussed upgrading, systematisation and automation of Romania’s railway network.

„In my conversation with Vincent Ducrot, director of the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB), I showed our interest in expertise in optimising the operation of rail transport. In the Swiss Confederation there are 40 companies that work in an integrated system for passenger service, and on a single ticket you can travel anywhere in the country. We want such a system in Romania as well! Last but not least, I underlined, during the meeting with Ignazio Cassis, head of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Council of the Swiss Confederation, the importance that Romania attaches to its accession to the Schengen Area, including with the land borders, before the year ends.”
