The design brief for a Romanian-manufactured drone will be developed by the end of this summer, and the prototype could be around by next year, Economy Minister Radu Oprea told a press conference at the Victoria Palace of Government at the end of the Executive’s meeting this Friday.

Also, Radu Oprea mentioned the two memoranda signed during the recent Black Sea Defense & Aerospace Exhibition (BSDA) regarding the creation of drones, one of which for agricultural use.

„There are two memoranda signed in two working groups, which include Romarm subsidiary Carfil SA. One of these agreements aims to improve the current legal provisions in Romania to allow the faster implementation of a Romanian drone project and, in general, of drones in Romania. The second memorandum, which has more than 13 participating institutions, such as the Polytechnic University of Bucharest, the University of Agricultural Sciences and many others that can contribute to a concept: the Romanian agricultural drone. These two memoranda were signed at the BSDA, as far as I know, they have already organized themselves,” said Oprea.

According to the official, one of the Carfil projects consists of creating a training center for drone operators, both for civil and military use.

The minister said that on Wednesday, at Eurosatory – the largest international defence and security industry fair – he spoke with Carfil’s French partner company which owns proprietary operator training software and simulators.
