Romania and Moldova want to deepen cooperation between their armed forces

The Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, paid an official visit to the Republic of Moldova between 25 and 27 June, the purpose of this visit being to deepen the cooperation between the armed forces of the two states by promoting the military component of the strategic partnership and intensifying the relationship military support for joint participation in missions and operations under the auspices of the UN, OSCE, NATO or the EU, a release by the Ministry of National Defense sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, reads.

The visit of General Gheorghita Vlad was at the invitation of his counterpart from Chisinau, Brigadier General Eduard Ohladciuc.

„At the same time, during the meeting, the security situation in the extended region of the Black Sea was evaluated, with emphasis on the evolution of the war started by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, on increasing the presence of the Moldovan military at training programmes in Romania and on actions to increase the visibility of the armed forces of the Republic of Moldova within the activities organized by NATO and the EU,” the press release adds.

The Chief of the Defence Staff emphasized that in the last decades the joint training resulted in a special, consistent and, above all, long-lasting collaboration between the armed forces of the two countries.

During the visit, members of the Romanian Army delegation and officials from the National Army’s General Staff planned a series of additional actions in order to develop the command-control capability and the defensive capacity of the Republic of Moldova’s army.

The head of Defence Staff was present on Thursday at the Day of Distinguished Visitors of the SCUTUL PACII / PEACE SHIELD 2024 exercise, organized in the Military Training Base in the area of Bulboaca. 700 soldiers from the Republic of Moldova, Romania and 19 other partner states took part in the exercise. PEACE SHIELD 2024, at which our country was represented by soldiers from the 81st Mechanized Brigade, is part of the evaluation program of the Concept of Operational Capacity of the armed forces of the Republic of Moldova.
