Bucharest General Mayor Nicusor Dan, attending on Saturday the extraordinary congress of the Save Romania Union (USR), declared that he „remains USR’s partner in the mission the party has embarked on” and voiced his conviction that the Right is the solution for Romania.

Dan evoked „the tough fight to make Romania a state with rule-of-law institutions” and argued that the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is the antagonist to this change.

„It’s a long struggle and only eight years have passed. There is only one struggle that matters for Romania after ’89, that of making Romania a state with institutions that work for the people, a state where the decision handed down by an official commission truly comes from the people sitting on that commission, who take it with their conscience, and is not dictated by some guys who have already established what should happen there. These are basic issues we are all aware of and which are the reason that drove each of us to enter politics. And there is only one word that defines the opposition to this change, and that word is PSD. So, in short, this is the struggle, and it’s a long lasting one. But this is why we are here, this is the responsibility each one of us has taken when we entered politics, for us, for our children – to make Romania a state of the citizens and to restore for each of the five million people who left the country the confidence that if they return, they will be respected,” the Bucharest Mayor said.

Nicusor Dan went on to remark that „the Right is the solution for Romania”, but it needs to rebuild itself.

„I am adamant in the belief that, despite the many, many errors it has made, the Right is the solution for Romania. I think a reconstruction of the Right is necessary, but as in any kind of partnership, this reconstruction requires institutions, entities that stand on their own feet, and this is why the moment you are living today is very important. I wish you inspired choices and a lot of time together,” Nicusor Dan concluded his address.

USR is holding on Saturday an extraordinary congress that is to elect the members of the formation’s National Bureau and the party’s candidate for president.
