The number of dissolved companies increased almost 16% in the first five months of this year, up to 19,229, compared to 16,608 in the same period last year, according to data centralized by the National Office of the Trade Register (ONRC).
Most dissolutions were recorded in Bucharest, with 4,038 firms (up 14.59% compared to January-May 2023) and in Ilfov (1,082, plus 48.22%), Cluj (1,017, plus 22.97%), Constanta (998, plus 28.77%), Timisoara (867, minus 2.36%) and Iasi (744, plus 39.59%) counties.
At the opposite pole, the fewest company dissolutions were recorded in Covasna (96, plus 6.67% compared to the first five months of 2023), Ialomita (107, plus 16.30%), Mehedinti (125, plus 25%) and Caras-Severin (127, plus 17.59%) counties.
The business sector that recorded the most business dissolutions in January – May 2024 is wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, where 5,201 dissolutions were recorded nationwide. Compared to the same period last year, dissolutions in this sector increased 12.72%.
According to the source, construction, professional, scientific and technical activities, as well as the manufacturing industry are other fields of activity where a large number of dissolutions of companies were recorded, namely 1,957 (plus 27.82%), 1,878 (plus 13.61%), respectively 1,633 (plus 15.16%).
