Ukraine’s Prosecutor General appreciates efforts of Romanian investigators in relation to crimes against humanity

The Prosecutor General of Ukraine, Andriy Kostin, said that he appreciates the involvement of Romanian investigators in connection with crimes against humanity in relation to the attack of the Russian Federation.

The statement was made in the context of the one-year anniversary of the launch of the International Center for the Criminal Investigation of the Crime of Aggression (ICPA).

„I appreciate the effort and involvement of the prosecutors in Romania who filed an ex officio complaint regarding crimes against humanity in connection with the attack of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. Romania is an important partner for us, which is also proven by the valuable contributions sent through Core International Crimes Evidence Database (CICED), representing evidence administered as part of the investigation opened in this country,” Andriy Kostin said, quoted in a press release from the PICCJ sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

According to the General Prosecutor’s Office, one year ago, Eurojust launched the International Center for the Criminal Prosecution of the Crime of Aggression (ICPA) – a unique judicial coordination platform dedicated to supporting national investigations into the crime of aggression related to the war in Ukraine.

„Through the ICPA we ensure that no evidence is lost, in order to prosecute those responsible for the crime of aggression in accordance with international standards. On the occasion of the first anniversary of the ICPA, I want to applaud its very important activity and reiterate the commitment of the European Commission to take all the necessary measures to support Eurojust and the ICPA states, including Ukraine, to fulfill their crucial mission,” said the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders, also quoted in the statement.

ICPA prosecutors and independent investigators from different countries regularly collaborated with Eurojust, benefiting from the agency’s specialized team of legal experts and customized technical, logistical and financial support, the PICCJ notes, adding that this allowed them to exchange of information and evidence quickly and efficiently and to coordinate a common strategy of criminal investigation and prosecution, and the unique nature and multinational composition of the center allowed it to use the expertise and services of a diverse range of national authorities in its activity.
