FM Odobescu, Egyptian counterpart Abdelatty address bilateral ties, Romania’s role in ensuring food security in Africa

The minister of Foreign Affairs, Luminita Odobescu, on Sunday talked by phone with her Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abdelatty, about the concrete ways to further increase the economic and sectoral cooperation.

The two chief diplomats discussed the deep bilateral relations that the two countries have built over time, with over 115 years of history of official diplomatic interactions.

„The dialogue also revealed concrete ways to further increase economic and by sectors cooperation, especially in areas of priority mutual interest, such as tourism, agriculture, trade and investment, labour, energy. The two dignitaries agreed that the organization of the Joint Economic Commission in Bucharest, in the near future, will provide the necessary impetus to achieve these objectives,” the release adds.

According to the communiqué, the two ministers also had an exchange of views on the security developments in the immediate vicinity of the two countries.

„In this context, Romania’s role in ensuring food security amid the Russian Federation’s aggression against Ukraine, especially on the African continent, was mentioned. The increasingly worrying developments in the Middle East were also reviewed. The Romanian minister of Foreign Affairs expressed appreciation for Egypt’s special role in identifying solutions to the current regional crisis,” the MAE release also reads.
