Chief of the Defence Staff, General Gheorghita Vlad, met his Luxembourgish counterpart, General Steve Thull, at the Multinational Corps South-East Command in Sibiu and at the „Getica” National Joint Training Centre in Cincu, Brasov, on Tuesday, according to the National Defence Ministry (MApN).
The two officials discussed the integration of the Luxembourg military in the NATO Battle Group, deployed to the training facilities in Cincu, two years ago, to strengthen the defence and deterrence posture.
General Gheorghita Vlad appreciated that the excellent level of cooperation relations between the Romanian military and the allied structure is also due to the outstanding professional conduct of the Luxembourg military.
„Their contribution remains essential in the process of achieving the initial operational capability of the Brigade Battle Group, which will take place early next year. I reiterate with full conviction that together we are firmly committed to the collective defense and strengthening of the Eastern flank of NATO and the EU,” said Gheorghita.
At the same time, the officials’ discussions focused on the assessment of the security situation in the wider Black Sea area, the evolution of the Euro-Atlantic defence architecture, as well as the diversification of the programme of joint training and exercises on the national territory.
The meetings took place during the visit to Romania of a delegation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, headed by Deputy PM Xavier Bettel and joined by Romania’s Ambassador to Luxembourg Alexandrina-Livia Rusu.
