The Romanian tennis player Jaqueline Cristian qualified for the quarterfinals of the UniCredit Iasi Open (WTA 250) tournament with total prizes of 232,244 euros on Tuesday, after defeating her compatriot Gabriela Ruse 6-4, 6-7 (1/7), 6-2.
Jaqueline Cristian (26 years old, no. 61 WTA) needed three hours of play to beat Ruse (26 years old, no. 147 WTA).
In the quarterfinals, Jaqueline Cristian will face the Russian Elina Avanesian (21 years old, no. 76 WTA), the fifth seed, who on Tuesday beat Croatian Petra Martic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4.
The Romanian won their only match so far, in May, in the second round in Rome, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.
Jaqueline Cristian secured a cheque for 5,750 euros and 54 WTA points, and Ruse remains with 3,512 euros and 30 WTA points.
Irina Bara and Anca Todoni qualified for the doubles semifinals, and will play versus the pair that will win the encounter Alexandra Panova (Russia)/Iana Sizikova (Russia/N.2) – Yvonne Cavalle-Reimers (Spain)/Aurora Zantedeschi ( Italy).
