In a meeting on Thursday with Republic of Moldova’s Deputy Prime Minister for European integration Cristina Gherasimov, Romanian Foreign Minister Luminita Odobescu evoked the remarkable progress made by Moldova in advancing the reforms required for its European integration, the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a release.

Odobescu added that „the efforts of the authorities in Chisinau took place in an economic, social and security context deeply aggravated by the Russian aggression against Ukraine”, stressing that the strides made by the Republic of Moldova in its European integration process are largely due to the political will proven by the pro-European government in Chisinau and its capacity to generate tangible and sustainable results.

In their talks, the two officials focused mainly on the latest developments recorded in the Republic of Moldova’s European bid and on bilateral cooperation in this field.

Odobescu emphasized that Romania’s commitment to providing Moldova practical support for the fulfillment of its European aspirations, based on the bilateral strategic partnership, remains one of the most important foreign policy objectives for the Romanian state. In this line, the Romanian top diplomat mentioned the working-level experience exchange bilateral programs intended to support the reinforcement of Moldova’s institutional capacity in the field of European affairs, the close cooperation between many of the Romanian and Moldovan central institutions, as well as the active political and diplomatic support Romania provides the neighboring country at European level.

The Moldovan deputy prime minister thanked for Romania’s support, emphasizing the readiness of the authorities in Chisinau to speed up the bilateral experience exchange programs in the field of European affairs, and voiced appreciation for the efforts for cooperation between the institutions of Romania and the Republic of Moldova so far.

Cristina Gherasimov is a guest to the Annual Meeting of Romanian Diplomacy taking place in Bucharest these days.
