New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport up by 17.3% in Q2

New registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport increased by 17.3% in the second quarter, compared to the same period in 2023, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

According to statistics, in the analyzed period, new registrations of vehicles for the transport of goods also increased by 17.3% compared to the second quarter of the previous year.

At the same time, the share of new registrations of imported used cars in total new car registrations decreased by 5.6 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2023, reaching 61.4%.

INS data reveal that, in the second quarter of 2024, compared to the second quarter of 2023, new registrations of road vehicles for passenger transport recorded increases in the mopeds and motorcycles category, by 20%, and in the passenger cars category, by 17.3%, and decreases in the buses and minibuses category by 2.9%.

As for the new registrations of new road vehicles for passenger transport, increases were recorded in all categories as follows: in the passenger cars category by 37.1%, in the mopeds and motorcycles category by 24.8% and in the buses and minibuses category by 8.1%.

With regard to new registrations of road vehicles for the transport of goods, increases were recorded in all categories as follows: in the category of trucks (including road vehicles for special purposes) by 25.2%, in the category of tractors by 22% and in the category of trailers and semi-trailers by 6.4%.

New registrations of new road vehicles for the transport of goods increased in all categories as follows: in the truck category (including road vehicles for special purposes) by 58.1%, in the tractor category by 23.3% and in the trailers and semi-trailers category by 9.8%.

Compared to the first quarter of 2024, in the second quarter of 2024, new registrations of road vehicles increased by 12.9% for passenger transport vehicles and by 5.5% for goods transport vehicles.

Road vehicles classified in accordance with the European Pollution Standards, registered in circulation, included, at the end of the second quarter of 2024, 62.9% of vehicles with Euro 4, Euro 5 or Euro 6 pollution standards and 10.4% of vehicles with Non-Euro pollution standards.

For the passenger car category, the most significant share was held by vehicles compliant with the European Euro 4 standard, respectively 33.8%, for the bus and minibus category most vehicles, respectively 23.3% were classified in the Euro 3 standard, and for the mopeds and motorcycles category, the most vehicles, respectively 25.1% were classified Non-Euro.

Vehicles compliant with the European Euro 3 standard predominated for the truck category in a proportion of 27.9%, those compliant with the Euro 6 standard were preponderant for the tractor category in a proportion of 42.4%, while for the category of road vehicles for special purposes most vehicles, respectively 23.1% were classified in the Non-Euro standard.

The INS specifies that the new registrations of road vehicles include the registrations of new vehicles, including those purchased in leasing, as well as the registrations of imported second-hand vehicles, classified according to the Community categories of vehicles. The data does not include re-registrations due to change of ownership following the sale of the vehicle, trams and trolleybuses, military vehicles, agricultural trailers and residential vehicles.
