BNR cuts monetary policy rate to 6.5% p.a.

At a meeting on August 7, 2024, the board of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) decided to cut the monetary policy rate to 6.50% per annum, from 6.75% per annum starting August 8, 2024.

It also decided to lower the lending (Lombard) facility rate to 7.50% per annum from 7.75% per annum and the deposit facility rate to 5.50% per annum from 5.75% per annum, and to maintain the existing levels of minimum reserve requirement ratios on both leu- and foreign currency-denominated liabilities of credit institutions.

In July, the board decided to cut the monetary policy rate to 6.75% per annum, from 7% per annum, as set in January 2023.
