Two physicians, anesthesia and intensive care specialists at the Emergency Clinical Hospital Sfantul Pantelimon in Bucharest, were detained Wednesday by prosecutors for aggravated murder in the case of the suspicious deaths in the ICU.
They are two physicians from the Pantelimon Hospital, accused of causing the death of a patient in serious condition in intensive care by abruptly reducing the dose of noradrenaline.
In the same case, C.M., a nurse in the Anesthesia and Intensive Care Department of the Emergency Clinical Hospital Sfantul Pantelimon in Bucharest, was indicted for the crime of perjury.
The defendants M.M.A. and P.M., as well as the suspect C.M. were remanded in custody for a period of 24 hours.
The case is to be submitted to the judge of rights and freedoms of the Bucharest Court, with a proposal for preventive arrest for a period of 30 days.
The investigation in this case was launched after, in April, prosecutors received a notification from a nurse employed at the St. Pantelimon Hospital regarding the fact that, between April 4 and 7, 2024, in the Department of Anesthesia and Intensive Care (ICU), 17 patients died, as a result of the voluntary reduction, by the medical staff, of the dose of noradrenaline – a neurotransmitter used to increase or maintain blood pressure.
