The announcement of Social Democratic Party (PSD) head Marcel Ciolacu regarding the candidacy for the Presidency was presumed and expected by everyone, the former National Liberal Party (PNL) chairman Crin Antonescu said on Tuesday evening at the Antena 3 private TV broadcaster, adding that he has nothing to do with any of the candidates for the presidential elections.
Crin Antonescu detailed that he has no conflict whatsoever with president Klaus Iohannis, no operation, alliance, agreement with (former Romanian Intelligence Service, SRI, head, ed. n.) Eduard Hellvig, in fact, with anybody.
„I only appreciated the fact that – and this seems undeniable to me – (former PSD head, currently NATO deputy secretary general, ed. n.) Mircea Geoana, in terms of foreign policy for example, has a necessary qualification for a presidential candidate. This does not make me a supporter of Mircea Geoana in any way and I don’t see why it bothers some,” added Antonescu, who specified that his dissatisfaction is as a voter.
He reiterated that he has no one to vote for at the moment.
„I could jokingly say, but not that much, that with the formalization of the candidacy of the PSD president, Mr. Ciolacu, the system already has two candidates, and I have none. (…) Mr. Ciuca (the second candidate, ed. n.). I suppose he will also make it official. I am referring to the stability system in Romania. (…) There may be more, but the two are the strategic pillars,” Antonescu said.
He said that he was not contacted by any PNL leader. He also stressed that he did not support Klaus Iohannis in the electoral campaign for the presidential elections, yet he voted for him.
Prime minister Marcel Ciolacu, the national leader of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), earlier on Tuesday announced having decided to run for the position of President of Romania. He added that Romania needs, „more than ever”, stability and balance.
