Weather forecasters have issued new heat and severe heat-related discomfort warnings effective Wednesday and Thursday for most of the country.
According to the National Weather Administration (ANM), Banat, southern Crisana, southern and eastern Transylvania, most of Muntenia and Moldova, southern and eastern Oltenia and continental Dobrogea are under a Code Yellow hot weather advisory, as temperature highs are expected to hover between 33 and 35 degrees, and the combination of heat and high relative humidity will fuel discomfort.
A Code Orange heat advisory is in place for the northern half of Crisana, Maramures, the northwest and center of Transylvania, northeastern Moldova and the south and center of Muntenia, where the temperature-humidity index (THI) will exceed the critical threshold of 80 of units. Temperature highs in these areas will range between 35 and 37 degrees.
On August 22, most of Muntenia, eastern Oltenia, southern Moldova and continental Dobrogea are under a Code Yellow warning of sizzling weather. These areas will experience temperature highs of 36 degrees and a tropical night, with minimums between 18 and 21 degrees.
Also, a second Code Orange advisory for particularly hot weather will be in force on Thursday in the counties of Giurgiu, Calarasi, Ilfov, and in Bucharest. The THI will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units and temperatures will go as high as 37 – 38 degrees.
The ANM specified that the heatwave will stay put in the southern and southeastern regions, spreading again to almost the entire country in the weekend.
